Exploring Europe’s Identity Through ‘Our Many Europes’ Initiative

“Our Many Europes” is an initiative by L’Internationale exploring the effects of the 1990s on contemporary Europe. Co-funded by the EU, it features over 40 activities and involves significant European art institutions, focusing on the role of art in reflecting and influencing Europe’s cultural landscape and identity post-Cold War.

The exhibition “Our Many Europes” is a collaborative project organized by the European museum confederation L’Internationale, co-financed by the EU’s Creative Europe program. Involving several prestigious institutions across Europe, including the HDK-Valand Academy and the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, it features over 40 public activities, such as conferences and workshops. This initiative reflects on Europe’s transformation throughout the 1990s, a decade that saw significant political, social, and technological changes. The project emphasizes the role of art and culture in shaping Europe’s current identity and highlights themes of diversity and civil society changes following the end of the Cold War. The activities will run until May 2022 and include various exhibitions, discussions, and collaborations with institutions from Bosnia-Herzegovina and the UK.

The concept of “Our Many Europes” emerged from a need to reflect on the impact of the 1990s on contemporary Europe, a time characterized by the end of divided ideologies and the rise of globalization.
