Currently, Amazon employs over 1.5 million people worldwide, with a significant portion of those roles based in the U.S., making it the second-largest employer in the country. Among these workers, roughly 350,000 are situated in corporate office jobs, potentially at risk in this AI transition.
In his memo, Jassy elaborated that Amazon is already embedding AI into operations across the board, hinting at a very tech-driven future. Tasks currently performed by humans—like shopping assistance and scheduling daily activities—could be handed off to AI systems. He emphasized the urgency of this change, stating, “Many of these agents have yet to be built, but make no mistake, they’re coming and coming fast.”

He pointed out that around half a million sellers on Amazon platforms are already utilizing the AI tools provided to enhance their product listings. Advertisers, too, are adopting these AI innovations, demonstrating the broad reach of AI across Amazon’s business models.
